Yes, Your Blue-Collar Business Needs Social Media Too

You build houses. Install floors. Pour concrete. Remodel kitchens. Fix things most of us wouldn’t know where to begin fixing. So do you really need to worry about Instagram? Yep. And no, we’re not asking you to learn a TikTok dance.

Your work is already the content.

This is the part blue-collar businesses tend to underestimate. You have some of the best content opportunities without even trying — before and afters, demolition, transformations, equipment, progress videos, job-site walkthroughs, time-lapses, problem-solving, finished projects. The stuff that feels completely normal to you because you see it every day? Your potential customers don’t. And they actually want to see it.

People want to see who they’re hiring.

When someone is about to hand a company thousands — or hundreds of thousands — of dollars, they’re probably doing a little research first, and yes, that includes looking you up on social media. They want to see your work. But they also want to see you. Who’s showing up at their house? How do you communicate? Do you know what you’re talking about? Do you take pride in the details? Can they trust you with their project? Social media gives people a chance to answer those questions before they ever call.

“But most of our business comes from referrals.”

Perfect. Now imagine someone refers you and the first thing that person does is Google your company — because they will. A referral might get them interested; your online presence helps validate the referral. If they land on an account that hasn’t posted since 2022, that’s a very different first impression than finding recent projects, real people, finished work and a company that clearly takes its reputation seriously.

You don’t need to become an influencer. Promise. You don’t need perfect lighting on the job site. You don’t need to post every day. And you definitely don’t need to point at floating text while trending audio plays behind you. You need to document what you’re already doing and turn it into content that builds credibility. The project you’re working on today could be the reason someone hires you six months from now.

So yes, the guys in work boots need a content strategy too. And lucky for you, your job site is already doing half the work.
